Created in 1903, the United States Department of Commerce is the branch of the government dealing with the nation's economic growth and development. Its headquarters are in central Washington, just north of the White House. The Department's many bureaus include the Bureau of the Census, the Bureau of Industry and Security, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
