A branch of the United States Government, the Department of the Treasury was created in 1789 to oversee the nation's revenue. Its headquarters are located in central Washington, within walking distance of the White House. Among its many duties, the Department prints and mints all coinage and paper currency through the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the U.S. Mint. It also manages the IRS.
