The National Gallery of Art was created in 1937 with funding from the U.S. Congress, and now contains more than 110,000 objects of fine art ranging from the Middle Ages to the current day. It occupies two buildings in downtown Washington, D.C., just two blocks west of the Capitol Building. The museum also hosts many high-profile temporary exhibitions, with past exhibits including Rembrandt's Prints and Drawings, and a collection of Netherlandish Diptych works.
