After its cornerstone was laid in 1907, it took another 83 years for the construction of the Washington National Cathedral to be complete. The result is a majestic structure offering Episcopalian worship that welcomes nearly 700,000 visitors and worshippers each year. The Washington National Cathedral has been the site of many historic occasions over the years, including Martin Luther King's last Sunday sermon, and President George W. Bush's Inaugural Prayer Service in 2001. The church lies a couple blocks north of Dupont Circle.
